Achieving all targets in a record season

Trapper Peak wins Southwell 15.04.16The National Hunt Season has drawn to a close. At the start of the season, I set myself the target of winning a total of £100,000 in prize money and 20 jumps winners.  In 2015, we trained our first flat winner in Bleu Astral, he then proceeded to oblige again and won back to back races. The 20th jumps winner was thanks to Trapper Peak who scored at Southwell, he was given a superb ride by Rhys Flint. Trapper Peak (pictured returning to the winners enclosure) led before the final fence and held on well to win for new owner David Gilbert. I was particularly happy with the performance as Trapper Peak is David Gilbert’s first horse with me and he has been running very consistently and I was thrilled to be able to get David his first National Hunt winner.

Helium Padd 15.04.16 BathHelium (pictured in the paddock) has been a superstar this season over fences winning over £20,000 in Prize Money; he reverted to the flat at Bath on Friday evening in a 2m Handicap. Cam Hardie, who had ridden a winner with Bleu Astral for us last year, took the ride. Cam had Helium in a nice position throughout the race and he ran on gamely to finish third beaten less than 2 lengths. Helium is one of the horses in the West Buckland Racing Club and he once again ran a tremendous race giving the Racing Club members a fun day out at Bath.

Guaracha Taunton 21.3.16The West Buckland Racing Club has enjoyed a tremendous run of form since the club was formed. The horses in the club have competed in 19 races; 18 of those runners have finished in the first four which included 8 winners. Given the success of the horses in the club so far I am pleased to announce another successful horse has joined the ranks with Guaracha (pictured here before his recent Taunton win) being the latest member. Guarahca is a dual winner for us and run 6 times for the yard. He has finished in the first four in 5 of his 6 starts including one win over hurdles and one win over fences. He has shown a liking for quick ground so he will be running through the summer months and hopefully he will remain competitive. There is more information on him and other horses in the club here.

There are also a limited number of places remaining in the West Buckland Racing Club. The cost of joining this exclusive Club is just £50 per month. For this you will be treated like an owner, with Owners Badges available when the Club Horses run, with personal e-mail and telephone contact with the Racing Club Manager. You will have the chance to meet Alex, Tom and our jockey in the parade ring and also the chance to greet our horses as they come back into the winners enclosure.
