Despite the wet weather we have managed to have a good morning schooling several of the string.
Blu Cavalier (pictured) had already schooled over hurdles prior to his impressive win at Taunton last week in a bumper and he again impressed me with his attitude to jumping. We are keeping our options open whether he will next run in a bumper under a penalty, or in a novice hurdle. I will have a discussion with his owners, Mr & Mrs Tincknell nearer the time to make entries and form a plan. I am looking forward to seeing him progress throughout the season.
Slidecheck, (pictured) who I purchased at the sales recently will run in the colours of the West Buckland Racing Club and he schooled this morning and again was pleasing. He has form in Point To Points and has been placed in a Hunter Chase so it is all second nature to him. The West Buckland Racing Club have had a superb time with Helium over the recent months and hopefully Slidecheck will be able to continue that. He is still a little way off running but I’d hope to get him ready around Christmas or New Year.
There were also several other horses out schooling this morning, Royal Chief and Winged Express were out. Winged Express is likely to have a run over hurdles in the near future and Royal Chief, who is a versatile sort anyway is likely to take his chance over 2m at Exeter on Sunday back over hurdles.
One horse I was very impressed with this morning was Beau Knight, I purchased him recently at the sales and have gelded him. Today was his first morning schooling and I am extremely pleased with how quickly he has adapted to his new job having only previously run on the flat before he joined the yard. He is for sale and there is more information on him here.
Whilst I am here I would also like to give you a little update from my recent runners. We ran both Lough Derg Island and Spring Steel at Chepstow yesterday but the ground become very testing and wasn’t really to their liking. In the evening attention switched to Kempton where Someone Exciting took her chance and although she finished eighth I was far from despondent. This was a higher grade race than she ran in last time and she was only beaten four lengths. It is hard to find races for a filly of her rating at this time of year but hopefully in a less competitive race she can acquit herself well.
Looking ahead to tomorrow and the weekend we had some runners declared and entered but unfortunately Ffos Las has been abandoned so we will look to find some alternative races for both Zero Visibility and Teachmetobouggie.
As I mentioned earlier it is likely Royal Chief will take his chance at Exeter on Sunday and hopefully the shorter trip will suit him well. Black Narcissus has also been entered at Lingfield next week. She did very well for me last season winning and finished placed on her last two starts; she will now head over fences and Lingfield is an option, as is Fontwell, a race I entered her in this morning; but I haven’t looked through the race yet and therefore not made a decision on her participation. There are also a small number of shares available in her; more information is available on the For Sale page and on my new online shop.
