Winged Express (pictured with happy connections) has been in good form this season and he recorded his second win of this current jumps campaign when scoring in tenacious fashion at Chepstow last week under a superb ride from Ian Popham. Before the race I had thought I had found a winnable opportunity for the horse but was very worried about the Irish Trained Not For You. Thankfully Winged Express stayed on strongly to chase down and pass that rival after the final fence. Winged Express has been quite a success for his owner Jim Burley this season; he has won twice, once over hurdles and once over fences and he has finished placed twice as well. Jim and The Bucklanders have all had great fun with the horse and hopefully he will be able to carry on the rich vein of form on his next start.
On Sunday we took Trapper Peak to Southwell and Adam Wedge took the ride on him; he jumped very well and ran an good race to finish third. He was by no means disgraced with the winner of the race Santa’s Secret having benefited from a wind operation and the runner up being a well handicapped horse on his old form; Trapper Peak lost nothing in defeat and everyone connected was delighted with the run.
Slidecheck has been something of a star since he joined the yard. He had been tremendously consistent finishing placed in his recent races but he gained his first success at Wincanton under Adam Wedge. Reverting to hurdles having been in good form over fences Slidecheck as usual jumped well and found generously off the bridle to provide the West Buckland Racing Club with another winner and improving the already phenomenal statistics. There is more information on the West Buckland Racing Club here.
We have been busy schooling lots of horses this week and Guaracha was pleasing schooling over fences and he takes his chance at Stratford this week. Stratford have put on a race with very good Prize Money and they should be applauded for that and hopefully Guaracha can get a share of that Prize Money.
Blu Cavalier holds an entry at Fontwell next Wednesday and it is likely he will take his chance. He has been in good form at home recently and I am looking forward to him taking his chance. He may well be joined at Fontwell by Zero Visibility, Teachmetobouggie and Gold Mountain. Final decisions on those horses have not been made yet.
Alex.
