Horses continue to run well and a round up of the week.

Horses continue to run well with DJ and Annaroe …

After a very good week last week we took David John to Exeter in the hope we could continue the yards good form and he didn’t let us down. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a young horse running for the first time at Exeter in what started out as pretty awful weather conditions with plenty of wind and rain around; however DJ acquitted himself really well finish fourth only beaten 2 lengths. Kevin Jones gave him a lovely ride and he really stayed on strongly in the closing stages; he is only a young horse so I wont be in a rush to run him again. He will tell his when he has recovered and is ready to run again but his debut was certainly full of promise.

Buoyed by a tremendous debut by David John at Exeter we headed to Fontwell with Annaroe the next day with Sean Bowen aboard. She was stepping up in trip and sporting cheekpeices for the first time in the hope she would show some better form. The longer trip at Fontwell suited her very well and she stayed on nicely to finish second, unfortunately she was unable to reel in the winner Demographic. Sean (Bowen) really liked the mare and said she kept trying her and should be able to win races in time. She holds an entry at Ffos Las next week and may well take up that engagement but no decision has been made yet.

To round of our week we declared Exemplary for Fakenham on Friday in the Selling Handicap Hurdle. I was confident he would run well as on paper it looked a very poor race and rounding the home turn it looked like he would collect but unfortunately he just missed the last and got caught on the run to the line. After the race Kieran Burke claimed him for £6,000 so he has now left the yard and I wish Kieran all the best with him.

So we had a very good week and the horses are running really well and while it is annoying to have a couple of seconds it at least shows the horses are in good heart and capable of, hopefully, winning races in the short term. We have a busy few days ahead as well with Nikos Extra making the trip to Aintree on Sunday and Prince Tom and Worldor making the journey to Wincanton. Hopefully they can continue the good run of form.

Following that on Sunday night I am heading off to the Horses in Training sales at Newmarket, where we have bought some lovely horses in the past so fingers crossed we can unearth some more value there next week.
