This is my fourth season with a licence and I am delighted to be having my best season both numerically and financially; with 19 winners so far over jumps and for the first time this season we have won £100,000 in Prize Money. I had privately set myself a target of getting to £100,000 in Prize Money and I was absolutely thrilled to have passed that at Newton Abbot on Monday. It is very much a team effort here at West Buckland with special thanks going to all the staff, owners and jockeys. Without their help and support over the season this would not have been possible. So a fantastic effort.
We have also had a good week on the track too with Lough Derg Island (pictured here) finishing a fine second at Uttoxeter. I was very impressed with the way Lough Derg Island finished his race off as he didn’t get home on his previous start at Lingfield. Rhys Flint gave him a lovely patient ride and both me and my sister Roz, who owners the horse, were delighted with his run. Hopefully he will be able to go one better shortly.
At Newton Abbot on Monday I passed the £100,000 mark in Prize Money as I mentioned earlier; Tactical Manoeuvre and Winged Express both finished placed earning Prize Money. Tactical Manoeuvre ran a nice race to finish third in the opening Novice Hurdle. He moved smoothly through the race and kept on nicely to finish third under Adam Wedge. He is qualified for a handicap mark now and has plenty of options going forward as he is still a Novice and having finished third in one that option is also open to him. He is For Sale to stay in the yard; there is more information on him here.
Winged Express has been in good form this season and was a winner over fences at Chesptow a month ago; he is a versatile horse who reverted to hurdles at Newton Abbot on Monday and ran a fantastic race to finish second. Winged Express holds an entry at Exeter next week but I will see how is he closer to declaration time before making a decision weather to run him there or not.
Looking forward to the coming week I have declared Helium (pictured here prior to his fine third at Sandown) at Taunton tomorrow; he is stepping up in trip to 2m2f which I have been keen to try him over for a while now but there hasn’t been the right race for him to do so. Tomorrow represents the perfect chance to step him up in trip at his local track, Taunton. Rhys Flint will take the ride and Helium is in good form at home and hopefully he can run a creditable race. He runs for the West Buckland Racing Club and there will be lots of support for Helium from members of the club. There are still a limited number of places available in the West Buckland Racing Club, there are more details here.
Looking ahead to Sunday I have Zero Visibility and Entry To Evrywhere both entered in the 2m handicap chase. The underfoot conditions at Ffos Las should suit them well so it is possible they could run. I also have Guaracha (Ffos Las) and Winged Express (Exeter) holding entries this week but I have yet to make a decision on weather they run.
